I have experienced many hardships in my past that almost broke me, but all glory to God, He got me through. I dove into self-development in my early 20’s through network marketing and fell in love with it. While learning skills through self-development I looked at my past and had two choices, I could allow it to define me or I can use it by working through the pain and turn it into purpose. We all have the opportunity to be better than we were yesterday, it’s as simple as making a choice. When I saw how quickly I could level up by seeking personal growth I went all in and am now on a growth mission. Andy Frisella defines success as “reaching your full potential” if you are not earnestly seeking to be better, then how will you reach your full potential? When my now husband, and I started working together 9 years ago, it was when I truly understood the power of the mind. Not only did we just start dating, I also went to work with him in plumbing and construction, which was brand new to me. Within 3 days of being there, the other office woman quit and left me with little training and a huge job of running 10 guys in what was to me, a whole new world. Needless to say, this was hard. My mind quickly went down a negative path and I began to spiral. I realized I had a choice here, I could allow myself to focus on these thoughts or I could change them. The practices of I am affirmations, the rubber band around my wrist as talked about in my book to become aware of the thoughts when they come to mind, talking to myself instead of listening to myself, and praying through it became daily practices. The more I did this, the more I recognized the change in state of mind. Since then I have never looked back and always choose to focus on thoughts that serve me rather than ones that make me feel triggered. How you think, so you are. What I have found from my experience is that mindset is the foundation to live a life filled with joy.

What are some of the lessons that you have learned?

I have learned that you can not live in fear and have faith at the same time. You can’t focus on two things at once. You must allow yourself to get uncomfortable so you can grow. Growth and character are formed under pressure, and honestly life is hard regardless, we need to choose our hard. I have found the best scenarios for me have been embracing the challenges with a solution creator mindset, looking for ways I can learn from the challenges so then I can get to the better version of me, faster. Also, we naturally have negative thoughts but its up to us to become aware of when they show up and how we respond to it. Are you going to allow these thoughts to run your life – because behavior follows thoughts, or do you choose to change it which will result in a life of abundance.

Tell us about the success of your book, “Ignite Your Inner Drive.”

Being my first book, I was nervous to publish it. I thought “people already know this” but then I was invited to a friend’s sales meeting where they hold a book club and meet on Mondays to discuss. Here I heard the takeaways and breakthroughs from the gentleman on this team and it reassured me of my purpose for writing the book to begin with! I was so excited to hear how it changed their perspectives!! If this book can add value and help one person get unstuck from a negative mindset, I consider that a win!

What are the essential tools for success?

Understanding that discipline trumps motivation. Motivation will get you started, but creating disciplined habits today will create success for your future. Secondly, knowing that mindset is the foundation, builds the skill of having a positive mindset. This will allow you to approach obstacles in such a different manner by focusing on the solution, not the problem. Keep pursuing your goals, don’t allow any failure to stop you. The faster you fail the faster you’ll learn, fail forward. You don’t fail unless you quit. Lastly, know your why. When you put purpose behind anything you do it will encourage you to push through in hard times.

Can you share a few actionable strategies?

If you don’t know what type of mindset you have, journal. After a few weeks go back and take note of what you’re journaling. Is the tonality more negative or positive? If it’s negative, see where you can make a change. This will start the process in helping you become self aware. A simple yet effective tool is gratitude journaling to get you started towards focusing on the positive. If you want to change your habits, first consider what you want to change, and the action step you need to take to make that happen. Then create a habit loop by pairing the new habit with an existing habit. For example, if you want to get in the habit of gratitude, stack with something like brushing your teeth. This is something you automatically do everyday and will trigger the reminder to name 10 things you’re grateful for in that moment. I’d suggest writing a sticky note on your mirror to remind you when starting. I would also suggest doing the hard things first. Rather than dwelling on the one thing you’re dreading all day long (which will drain you), make it your first priority and knock it out of the way. This will allow more energy for the remainder of the day to accomplish other things and will help retain your energy.

Share your mission for your book.

My mission for this book is to help my audience get unstuck from a negative mindset so they can live an abundant life. To shift perspectives by understanding there’s a choice on how to approach obstacles and how to dream big but break it down into smaller goals so they get to work and actually make it happen.

What is next for you?

I hope to reach more people through more conversations over podcasts, including starting my own.
