Understated E Boutique was founded by two friends from the Caribbean who shared a love for fashion and a mission to make women feel confident every day. What started as a passion project has grown into an online boutique dedicated to offering effortless, everyday style. Our goal is simple: to bring confidence, comfort, and chic style to every woman’s wardrobe, wherever she is.
What makes our story unique is that we’ve built this boutique while managing full-time careers and family life. Jennifer runs a Medical Management and Billing company serving clients in both Puerto Rico and Florida, balancing a 40-hour workweek with the demands of entrepreneurship in the fashion industry. Melissa works full-time at Coca-Cola Puerto Rico, is also a licensed realtor, and dedicates her creativity and time to the boutique. Both of us are wives and mothers, which makes every milestone and accomplishment even more meaningful.
When did you decide to launch a boutique?
The love for fashion and art has been woven into our lives for as long as we can remember. In our twenties, we were inseparable at every fashion show — not just as spectators, but as true enthusiasts. We’d spend days planning our looks, capturing the excitement of self-expression through style.
Our journey with fashion began early. We even ventured into selling Gatsby clothing, drawn by the joy of helping women express themselves and feel radiant in what they wore. Yet, despite our shared dream of creating something of our own, it always lingered as a “someday.”
That “someday” became real when life took a beautiful turn. Melissa was expecting her daughter, Cecilia, and two months later I was pregnant with my son, Sebastian, while my daughter Paola was seven. Motherhood changed everything — it gave us purpose, drive, and the courage to finally bring our dream to life.
Understated e-Boutique was born from that blend of passion, family, and vision — a project that represents not just fashion, but empowerment, creativity, and legacy. To us, it’s more than a brand — it’s our story, our dream, and our baby.

Our Knot Me Bag is part of our latest Wild Caramel Collection and perfectly captures the spirit of the season — stylishly chic with a modern twist. This one is actually a little hard to answer because we’ve had several pieces that really caused a sensation — but we’ll go with the ones that truly resonated the most.
One of them is the Palm Wide Skirt, a stunning solid green piece that became an instant favorite. With its flattering mid-rise waistband and trendy bubble design, it perfectly combines comfort and effortless style. We usually avoid re-orders to keep each piece unique, but this skirt sold out so fast that we had to bring it back more than twice — and every time, it was gone within days!
Another standout was the Classic Blue Dress, which caused such a buzz that it sold out in just two days. It brings a modern twist to classic denim, featuring a strapless sweetheart neckline, structured bustier bodice, and a flowing midi skirt that flatters every shape. It’s feminine, elegant, and one of those pieces that truly captures attention.
And of course, the Salt Stripe Set — our breezy, coastal-inspired two-piece with a square-neck crop top and a high-waisted flowy maxi skirt in soft blue and white stripes. It has that effortless, vacation-ready feel that our customers love — and like the others, it didn’t stay in stock for long.

“I have no life, I’m a boutique owner.” What has surprised you the most as a business owner?
I have no life, I’m a boutique owner” — we say it jokingly, but there’s so much truth behind it! Starting our online boutique from scratch with no outside funding — and while living in different cities, Jennifer in Florida and Melissa in Puerto Rico — was one of the biggest challenges we’ve faced. We learned fast, wore every hat imaginable, and figured out how to make remote teamwork and lean operations actually work for us. It wasn’t easy, but those early struggles shaped who we are today and made every milestone feel even more meaningful.
What makes our story unique is that we’ve built this dream while balancing full time careers and family life. Providing excellent customer service and building real relationships have helped us grow a loyal, supportive community around our brand.
But above all, we’ve realized that no one will ever care about your business the way you do. When it’s your dream, you show up for every detail, every challenge, and every decision. The passion, love, and effort you pour into it are what make it grow — and that’s something we’ll never take for granted.
