She also served on the City of Beaverton Diversity Advisory Board, and in 2021, was elected to represent Zone 5 on the Beaverton School District Board, where she championed educational equity and student success.
Her academic credentials include a Law Degree and an MBA, equipping her with the legal acumen and strategic insight to lead in both the courtroom and the boardroom.

You have drawn on your powerful personal story to empower women to rise above adversity and embrace their full potential. Share your background.
I grew up in Nigeria, in a single-parent household after losing my father at the age of six. As the fifth of eight children, life was challenging. From an early age, I turned to fashion as a mental escape from hardship and life’s challenges. By the age of eight, I was sketching and designing unique fashion ideas; by eleven, I was helping out at neighbors’ tailoring and fashion stores. My creativity earned me the title of “the family stylist,” and fashion became my first love.
Despite the difficulties of my childhood, I pursued education relentlessly. I earned bachelor’s and advanced degrees in Law and later, obtained an MBA from Dowling College in New York.
Life, however, continued to test me. I survived domestic violence, endured a painful separation and divorce, and faced the heartbreak of my son being diagnosed with autism. During this period, I lost my job and nearly faced homelessness, plunging into deep depression. Yet, through resilience, faith, and determination, I chose to rise. I refused to let my circumstances define my future. Fashion has always tugged at my heart, and I longed to create a brand that merged elegance with affordability. I realized there were few luxury brands that were uniquely designed yet accessible. From this desire, Ugo Joshua was born, a brand inspired by my trials, triumphs, and the belief that resilience is beautiful. Ugo Joshua is more than just a bag or accessory; it is a story, a journey, and a symbol of rebirth. It represents resurrection, renewal, reinvention, and empowerment for every woman who has endured pain, abuse, or hopelessness. I want every woman to know that like an eagle, she can rise, rebuild, and soar again.
A core mission of the brand is to support The Voice of Destiny Foundation, a faith-based non-profit I founded to empower women and youths to rebuild their lives and maximize their potential through inspirational speaking. A percentage of sales from Ugo Joshua Collections supports this mission.

You are a much sought-after Inspirational and Motivational Speaker. How is your story a testimony to other women?
I am more of an inspirational and motivational speaker. I hit rock bottom in 2014. I went through a painful divorce, lost my job, and faced the heartbreaking reality of my son being diagnosed with autism. The weight of it all pushed me into a deep depression, and I found myself battling suicidal thoughts. But through my faith and the unwavering support of my family, I slowly began to rise again. I rebuilt my life, brick by brick, rediscovering my strength along the way. As I healed, I realized that so many women were quietly enduring their own seasons of loss, confusion, and heartbreak. Women who felt defeated, unseen, and unsure of how to move forward. Women who, like I once did, felt tempted to give up on life. I chose not to stay silent. I chose to use my journey, both the trials and the triumphs to inspire, uplift, and motivate women who are walking through their darkest moments. My story is my testimony, and my purpose is to remind women everywhere that even in the deepest pain, there is hope, there is healing, and there is a path forward.
As the founder and creative director of Ugo Joshua Collections. How are you “Re-defining affordable luxury?
For me, redefining affordable luxury began with a personal struggle. I loved elegance, sophistication, and beautifully crafted purses but as a stylish woman on a budget, true luxury often felt out of reach. Through my research, I discovered a gap in the market: many brands claimed to offer “affordable luxury,” yet their prices still placed them far beyond the reach of everyday women.
That realization sparked the creation of The Ugo Joshua Collection.
We are intentionally redefining what luxury means by merging high-end design, quality craftsmanship, and attainable pricing. Our commitment is simple: to create stunning, luxurious products that the everyday woman can confidently afford without compromising on style, elegance, or durability.

What are some of the lessons you have learned as an entrepreneur?
Failure is a steppingstone, not a dead end and resilience is everything. I’ve learned that what feels like a disaster today often turns out to be a lesson that shapes tomorrow. Early in my journey, when our first sample did not turn out well, I felt disappointed, but I saw that as an opportunity to go back to the sketching board to try and perfect the style until we got it right. There were moments I wanted to quit. Times when I could not obtain the loan or capital to start up the business. But each time I chose to rise again and find alternative ways of raising capital. I discovered that resilience isn’t just about surviving, it’s about growing stronger through adversity.

I founded the Voice of Destiny Foundation in 2016 with a deep, personal commitment to uplifting and empowering women, especially women within my African community. My mission is to use my own journey, voice, and experiences to inspire others, spark meaningful conversations, and create spaces where women can heal, grow, and step boldly into the best versions of themselves. Through intentional guidance, motivational speaking, and authentic connection, I strive to help women recognize their worth, embrace their purpose, and pursue their destinies with confidence and courage.
