Vicki Cable’s New Book ‘Braving the Journey’ Offers Powerful Hope for Anyone Facing Life’s Storms

In a world full of uncertainty and personal trials, Braving the Journey: Rising Above Life’s Challenges by Vicki Cable is a beacon of hope for those navigating the toughest seasons of life. This inspiring new release weaves together true stories, uplifting reflections, and practical tools to remind readers of one vital truth: you are stronger than you think.

Vicki Cable is a two-time cancer survivor and thriver and understands the challenging journey back to “life.” She takes a more holistic approach to her coaching addressing the physical, spiritual and mindset. Each person’s journey is unique, so she takes a personalized approach to specific needs and preferences. This helps each one better navigate their experience and set achievable goals that may include physical, emotional, and social aspects all with the focus of helping the client step into their desired future.

Why have a Cancer Coach?

The mentality that once you are done with treatments, you are done with cancer could not be further from the truth. Your health providers focus on medical treatment, while a cancer coach will focus on helping you cope with the physical, emotional, spiritual and all the challenges such as fear of recurrence, changes in body image, concerns about long-term side effects, anxiety about follow-up appointments and adjusting to life after cancer. Being able to work with someone who has experienced and lived with cancer and overcome these same issues can help reduce fears and anxiety, as well as provide comfort and practical information for all your support members affected by cancer.

Your coach can be a guiding light, assisting you in reigniting the flame of passion and purpose, allowing you to embrace life with a renewed enthusiasm and clarity.

“Life’s journey is filled with unexpected challenges, but within every struggle is the power to rise again.” Share your journey.

My journey has been one of unexpected mountains and valleys. Twice, I’ve faced cancer, and each time it shook the foundation of my life. But it also revealed to me an inner strength I didn’t know I had. Those experiences taught me that while we don’t get to choose the storms we face, we do get to choose how we rise from them. For me, rising meant leaning on faith, embracing resilience, and discovering a deeper purpose: to walk alongside others navigating their own storms. My journey isn’t about avoiding hardship—it’s about showing that healing, hope, and new beginnings are always possible.

Do you believe Resilience is not an innate trait; it is a skill that you can develop and nurture?

Yes, absolutely. Resilience is not something you’re simply born with; it’s something you grow into. Each setback, each hardship gives us the chance to strengthen our ability to recover, adapt, and persevere. I’ve learned that resilience develops when we practice it—when we choose to keep going despite the weight of fear or uncertainty. It’s like building a muscle: the more you use it the stronger it becomes. And the beauty is that anyone can nurture it. Even in the smallest steps forward, resilience is taking root and shaping us into what we are meant to become.

You take a holistic approach with clients. Take us through working with you.

When I work with clients, I honor the whole person—their physical health, their mindset, and their spirit. I know from my own experience as a survivor that cancer doesn’t just affect the body; it touches every part of life. What makes my coaching unique is that I don’t offer a one—size—fits—all plan. Instead, I listen deeply and help clients discover what they truly need to reclaim their strength, purpose, and passion. Sometimes that means setting achievable goals, sometimes it’s reframing limiting beliefs, and other times it’s simply holding space for the emotions that surface. My role is to walk beside them, reminding them they are not alone, and that their future can be filled with hope and possibility.

Tell us about your new book, “Braving the Journey: Rising Above Life’s Challenges.”

Braving the Journey is a collection of heartfelt stories, encouragements and insights designed to inspire anyone facing life’s storms. It grew out of my own experiences as a cancer survivor, but it’s not just for those facing illness—it’s for anyone who has ever felt knocked down by life. The book is a reminder that within each of us lies the courage to keep going, the faith to believe in tomorrow, and the strength to rise again. My hope is that every reader finds a piece of their own story reflected in its pages, and that they walk away feeling less alone and more empowered to step into their next chapter.

How important is a support system?

A support system is everything. When I was going through treatment, I was surrounded by family, friends, colleagues, and a community that lifted me when I couldn’t lift myself. Their love and encouragement reminded me that I didn’t have to be strong every moment—because others were willing to be strong for me. A support system doesn’t erase the struggle, but it makes the burden lighter. For my clients, I often encourage them to cultivate that circle of support, whether it’s family, friends, a faith community, or a coach. We were never meant to go through life’s hardest battles alone. Support gives us hope, and hope gives us the strength to carry on.

How have you embraced a new beginning with faith?

Embracing a new beginning with faith has meant choosing to step forward when I couldn’t see the whole path ahead. After facing cancer twice, I had every reason to believe that my story wasn’t finished, that there was still a purpose waiting to unfold.

For me, faith has been less about having all the answers and more about trusting the One who holds them. It’s been waking up each day and saying, “I don’t know what today will bring, but I believe there is strength, hope and goodness still ahead.”

That shift in perspective has allowed me to see life not as something broken by hardship, but as something made new through it. Faith has opened my heart to courage, laughter, and to the belief that even after the darkest storms, new beginnings are possible. And that is the hope I want to share with others through my book—that no matter what challenges you’ve faced or are currently facing, you can rise and you can begin again.

Your book is a guide to empower. Can you share three areas that you share to help others?

My mission is to help people rise above life’s challenges and reclaim their strength, purpose and passion. In Braving the Journey I focus on three key areas:

  1. Resilience – Learning how to bend without breaking, to rise even when the weight of life feels overwhelming.
  2. Mindset – Recognizing and reframing limiting beliefs that hold us back so we can step into possibilities with courage.
  3. Faith and Hope – Trusting that even in the darkest storms, there is light ahead, and that every ending can be the beginning of something new.

These three areas weave through my coaching and my book because they are the foundation for healing, growth and transformation.

What has been the greatest lesson that you have learned?

The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that we are stronger than we ever imagined. Life will bring storms we don’t see coming and we may wonder if we have what it takes to endure. But within those moments, we discover that strength, courage, and faith rise up in us in ways we never expected. I’ve learned that setbacks don’t define us—our response does. And when we lean into faith, surround ourselves with love, and keep moving forward one step at a time, we realize that even in the hardest places, beauty and purpose can still grow.
